Anatomy Proportion Tutorial by SnaiLords Anatomy Proportion Tutorial by SnaiLords
Eh, I'm no expert, but here you go BruiseyandKeith1
lulz There're more ways to "measure" but I'm just trying to simplify it the best way I can. (I can make 2 more tutorials on other measuring tricks…grids etc.) I normally don't draw using grids or guidelines…some people draw sketches of circles and lines first then outline….I just draw straight out (with loose sketches) Everyone works differently. Experiment to see what you like best.

Best thing to do is creep on people and make gazillion of sketches to improve.

Just notice the relative position of the ears to where the eyes are. How many arms does it take to go down a body? Where does the elbow bend in relation to someone's waist? Notice where someone's fingertips end on their thighs. Etc. These things help composing a proportionate body.

Guys, I apologize on answering to your comments like a snail. I just got back home…and gotta apply to work places and such. 0_0 They get taken so damn fast. lol i still have yet to compose a proper resume. Sigh. Dafuq AiDYN!

this is helpful. Thank you. :D
KleithsuneTails Featured By Owner Nov 1, 2016
I had already crept on people to see where the elbow is compared to torso, where the hands end on thighs, the shape of back from neck to butt, and now after reading this I be creeping some more 😂 😂

*checks* ...Holy crackers they are. I HAVE NORMAL SIZED FEET!!
So like... What are realistic-ish head-neck-and-shoulder proportions? I'm experimenting, but I can't come up with anything definitive...

Wow, thank you for doing this! I've "studied" anatomy for a while now, and have got maybe a bit too perfectionist with it (nothing has turned out too well..). But this summarizes well the most important parts! Gotta keep that "amount of heads" in mind :D
LittleBlackenedRaven Featured By Owner Sep 16, 2015  Student Traditional Artist
Hm... I'm unproportionate! My middle finger touches my eyebrow and my foot is a good inch and a half smaller than my forearm... I also have really small feet, hands, and basically everything. Standing proud at officially 5' 1 1/4" <3 Also I have really big doe-y eyes for my face, with an sort of unrealistic waist, and really long legs for my torso. Yep my doctor had to inform me of all of this. Guess I'm sort of what society wants in a girl....?

Thanks for this... I <3 it

My life just might get a bit better! Well my drawing like that is...!

*raises hand* Now then Snaily, what if I just completely fail at proportions no matter what?
0ArtisticallyInsane0 Featured By Owner May 20, 2015  Student General Artist
cartooning is an answer... practice is  the better one, but lemme tell ya, in cartooning [as you may have seen] the proportions and anatomy dont always fallow the rules [hence the reason their expressions are easily made and making the funny ones funnier]

simplifying helps a whole lot, i hope this helps in someway

also you dont have to do cartoons, as i said practice is the better answer....i just went with both

I have been writhing on the floor for almost ten minutes trying to do the arm and foot thing XD

EDIT: forearm is slightly taller than foot by almost one inch

Damn those 7 head models :cries v.2 . I can only ever draw 6 head models without them looking off, at least to me.
CakeTheSnake Featured By Owner Jun 19, 2014  Student General Artist
Sorry to bother you, I know you're probably really busy, but you're so awesome. I just wondered how you figure out your poses?
Erm thanks and don't worry if you're too busy or if your hand is bothering you, it's really not important. Have a nice day. :)
SnaiLords Featured By Owner Jun 20, 2014  Student Digital Artist
XD you are not bothering me. Either hoogle search for the pose you want or get someone else to pose for you.

But normally, I just see those in my head.
CakeTheSnake Featured By Owner Jun 20, 2014  Student General Artist
Thanks! I do try looking at stock on here but I never thought about google!
I always screw up something when I try to picture things! haha!

Huh. I did not know the foot thing. That's a step closer heh to mastering legs. I feel like I'll never stop feeling like they're these weird shaped things far below me, though.

SnaiLords Featured By Owner Jan 21, 2014  Student Digital Artist

Glad we can draw shoes instead.

SnaiLords Featured By Owner Jan 17, 2014  Student Digital Artist
HUH HOW? lolz (the hat thing)

(Lulz some parts I just naturally did. Some parts were learned from art class.)

H-how on Earth does this big hand get supported on such a thin wirst- *SHOT* :XD:

A pretty smooth cover of the basics :) Now I finally understand why my portraits always feel so off. While head proportions are pretty obvious and simple to use, I can't even concentrate on that face tutorial enough to read it... Let alone apply it in reality LOL :D

Btw, Snail, what's your favourite excuse for bad anatomy? Mine is "s/he's coming from a family with a looooong history of imbreeding" :lmao:
SnaiLords Featured By Owner Jan 14, 2014  Student Digital Artist
dark magic lol.

hahaha my excuse probably be "Eh, the person really looked like that. Trust me, I'm an artist."
